Thousands protest in Bahrain demanding reform

Witnesses said thousands of people were demonstrating Friday in Bahrain at the invitation of the Shiite opposition demanding reforms, on the occasion of the international day of democracy, witnesses said.

Witnesses said protesters gathered in budaiya road which is 3 km from the capital Manama, Bahrain with flags and red and white photographs of the activists detained dissidents.

And shouted words demanding democracy and unfurled banners calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa, the King's uncle, who holds this position since 1971.

On 7 September, police broke up with tear gas after protesters tried to gather in Manama Shiites to demand the release of opposition figures.
